Adina C. (22) and Elena D. (23), both Romanian nationals, were arrested by Gardaí in their apartment in Cavan on 22 September 2012. The court heard that Elena D., who it was said was suffering financially and awaiting money to return to Romania, was not present in court. A Garda witness gave evidence the women had admitted brothel keeping. He further said the women had set up a “cottage-industry” from which they had hoped to make a lot of money, but he joked, saying “this never happened, it might have had something to do with the tightness of Cavan people”. The judge accepted a sum of €300 present in court as a donation to the local St Vincent de Paul and dismissed the charges.
