Alina B. (23) and Viorica F. (25), both Romanian nationals, were arrested at a premises in Cavan on 21 January 2012. Both ladies had only been at the property a short time and admitted it was a brothel. A Garda witness told the court they were there as sex workers and were not involved in the organisation of the brothel. The Garda further said “I am satisfied at this stage that they were put there by other people, to be used in the trade.” and informed the court both defendants co-operated with the Gardaí and had been put in this premises by a person who is now known to the Gardaí and is the subject of a separate investigation. Their solicitor said the two young ladies were put in a position they could not get out of, were pleading guilty and were remorseful. The judge directed each pay €250 to the Cavan Conference of St Vincent de Paul and that they be put in touch with Ruhama. The judge also ordered that all seized items be forfeited to the state for destruction.
