Blanka V. (24), a Czech national, was arrested and charged with brothel keeping following a Garda raid on her apartment in Limerick on 11 February 2009 where items suggesting prostitution were found. These items included sex aids, three mobile phones, a laptop, €150 in cash and a notebook that contained a list of clients and earnings. The court heard she had a previous conviction for soliciting and had arrived in Limerick a week previously. Her solicitor said she came from a poor background and had little education. She pleaded guilty to operating a brothel and received a 6-month suspended jail sentence. She was given 48 hours to leave the city. The judge ordered the forfeiture of the items seized but directed the cash was returned to Blanka V. to assist with her travel arrangements.
