Cristina M. (24), Roxana R. (20) and Vasilica F. (24), all foreign nationals, came before the court accused of brothel keeping on 10 March 2012 at an address in Cavan. Their solicitor told the court that the defendants were pleading guilty to the offences and requested the judge deal with the matter by way of a contribution to charity. A Garda witness told the court, on entering the premises, they had encountered the defendants who were “questioned and readily admitted carrying out prostitution at the premises.” The Garda witness further told the court that these defendants were only workers for a much larger scale operation and added that they all co-operated fully and the premises had since closed down. After hearing all the evidence, the judge struck out the charges and ordered all three to each make donations of €200, to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in one case and in the other two cases to the Tearmann organisation for women affected by domestic violence.
