Florentina G. (29), a Romanian national, pleaded guilty to operating a brothel in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 on 7 July 2012. The court heard when Gardaí raided her apartment they found Florentina G. and another woman working there as prostitutes plus items linking Florentina G. to the apartment, a laptop which was open on her online escort profile, and a sex toy. Her defence counsel said she had no previous convictions and had come to Ireland “in search of a better life”. He said she’d been living in poverty and had got into prostitution “purely as a means to an end”, it hadn’t been a good experience for her and her only wish was to return to her country where her father is seriously ill. He said she wanted to enrol on a course to become a nurse and that a conviction would cause her “great difficulty”. The judge told Florentina G. she could avoid a jail term on condition she returned to Romania within a week. He adjourned the case until the following year to make sure she had remained away.
