Madalina B. (20) and Veronica B. (28), both Romanian nationals, were arrested for brothel keeping in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal on 7 December 2011, charged and brought before the court. The court heard, during the raid, mobile phones, laptops, condoms and €875 in cash was seized. A Garda witness also said he found new clothing for “young kids” in the search. The women admitted using the apartment for prostitution. Their solicitor said they were vulnerable and trying to earn money for their families back home and for Christmas. Veronica B. was divorced and a victim of domestic abuse. The court heard that there was no evidence of human trafficking in the case, which was described as a private operation by the women. He fined the women €300 each allowed them to keep the remaining €275 to pay for their travel back to Romania. A judge also granted a Police Property Application.
